Abenengo for Development (ABEDEV) successfully convened the inaugural Samia Youth Leadership Summit on 30 April 2026 at the Samia Youth Empowerment Centre at Nangina in Funyula Constituency. The event brought together up to 35 young leaders elected to represent other young people from across Samia Subcounty for meaningful dialogue and engagement on youth leadership, civic participation, accountability and community transformation.
The Summit marked a significant milestone in strengthening youth voice and participation in governance and development processes within the Subcounty. One of the key highlights of the event was the official unveiling of the Samia Youth Leadership Council (SYLC), a new platform for highly motivated young leaders to foster youth leadership, coordination and active involvement in community development initiatives.
Speaking at the event, the newly unveiled Samia Youth MP, Christopher Wesonga appreciated the efforts of ABEDEV in bringing the youth together for meaningful engagement in the transformation of Samia Subcounty, saying the efforts signalled the beginning of a new chapter of youth-driven civic engagement and collective action within the Subcounty. He promised to provide the necessary leadership to steer the new youth network to greater heights of achievements. The ABEDEV Board Chairperson Dr. Gilbert Muyumbu reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting and nurturing this emerging youth leadership movement through continued collaboration with partners and stakeholders dedicated to inclusive youth-led and youth-focused community development.
ABEDEV extends sincere appreciation to all partners, supporters, sponsors and well-wishers whose financial, logistical and moral support contributed to the success of the Summit. Their partnership made it possible to create a platform that empowered young people to connect, learn and organize around shared development priorities.
