Who We Are
ABENENGO FOR DEVELOPMENT is a voluntary association of volunteers working with the youth of Busia County to shape a future filled with hope and opportunity. We are registered as a cause-based and membership-based organisation with the State Department of Social Services. Our area of operation is Samia Sub-County in Busia County, Kenya, but with partnerships and influence that extend beyond the Sub-County.
What We Do
ABENENGO FOR DEVELOPMENT has four clusters of action. These are: Civic Awareness, Youth Governance Participation, Youth-led Accountability and Youth Income Opportunities. The four are a strategic outcome of our 2025–2029 Strategy, ‘Busia for People: Waking Institutions to Serve People’. The Strategy acknowledges that Busia is among the poorest counties in Kenya, with most of its Human Development Indicators (HDIs) falling below the national average. The poverty is attributable to the weak performance of governance institutions in the County.
Our intention as ABENENGO FOR DEVELOPMENT is to reverse the trend of poverty through creating sustained youth-led pressure that will influence the County Government and related institutions to be more efficient and effective, ultimately improving the lives of the majority of residents in Busia County and particularly the youth. The four clusters of action collectively set out to achieve this through mobilizing young people through creating opportunities for income, raising their civic awareness including rights and responsibilities, facilitating them to engage in government decision-making and supporting them to monitor government performance.

A Busia County where the government facilitates the enjoyment of better living conditions for ordinary residents, especially the youth. .
Mission
Empowering the youth in Busia County and facilitating them to demand optimal performance from the Government and its agencies.
Purpose
To promote good governance by influencing institutions in Busia County to serve ordinary residents, especially the youth.
Strategic Goal
Deploy civic empowerment, citizen participation and citizen-driven accountability as the main means through which to make the government and its institutions in Busia County responsive to ordinary residents, especially the youth.
