Second Annual ABENENGO Basketball Festival

ABEDEV held its second edition of the Annual ABENENGO Basketball Festival (AABF). The festival commenced on Saturday 20^th December and ended on Wednesday 24^th December 2025, at Nangina High School, Samia Subcounty, Busia County.

The festival attracted interest from across Busia County, with teams from across the County expressing interest to participate. Due to logistical challenges, however, only four teams managed to participate. Nonetheless, this was an improvement on the inaugural tournament, which had only three teams participating.

Additionally, the second edition had participation from Bunyala subcounty, which was represented by BunyalaWazee. The other three participating teams were from Samia subcounty, and included Cannons, from Namboboto-Nambuku ward, Big To Be and Hiddens, both from Nangina ward. Cannons emerged champions, beating Big To Be in the finals and taking the crown, which Big To Be had won in the inaugural edition, from them. Cannons were carried to the crown by their trio of Shadrack, Ingram and Sam, three Congolese lads who are students in a number of local high schools. Cannons’ Ingram emerged as the Most Valuable Player, while Mark Omunanga of Big To Be from Nangina ward emerged as the Most Promising Talent of the year.

Another positive development from the tournament was that it attracted not just high-class referees in Timothy Ojiambo, James Ngira and Constance Keya, but also potential sponsors. The potential sponsors were Charles Orido and Allan Orido, both based in the US, who briefly attended the final match. Both pledged to support ABEDEV in building young talents in basketball in Busia County. Charles made a donation of a ball of basketball as a gesture of commitment to the initiative.

ABEDEV looks forward to the third edition of the festival later in 2026, with the hope that the edition will be much bigger compared to the first two editions of the festival, including having female teams participate in the festival. For all basketball players and lovers in Busia County and beyond, tukutane from October 2026 for the third edition.
