Abenengo for Development (ABEDEV) is a registered, cause-based membership CBO, established in 2018, and operating in Samia sub-county of Busia County with programs spanning across the county.
Through our programs, we contribute to solutions aimed at ending persistent poverty and youth unemployment in Busia County. We work to promote good governance by ensuring institutions serve the people, especially the youth.
Our membership consists primarily of youth who are aged between 18 and 35 years and are passionate about uplifting the welfare of young people. Our physical office is on Sirindiro House in Funyula township, Samia sub-county, Busia County, Kenya.
Our work is informed by our 2025 – 2029 strategy, ‘Busia for People: Waking Institutions to Serve People’, which categorises Busia County among the poorest counties in Kenya, with most of its HDIs indicators falling below the national average.
The poverty is due to the weak performance of governance institutions in the County. Our approach to reverse the poor trend is to engage in efforts to create sustained citizen-led pressure that will influence the County Government and related institutions to be more efficient and effective, ultimately improving the lives of the majority of residents in Busia County and particularly the youth.
This will be achieved through our programmes; youth income opportunities, civic awareness, citizen participation and citizen-led accountability.
To promote good governance by ensuring institutions in Busia County serve the ordinary residents.
